The XII Spanish-Portuguese Conference on Controlled Drug Delivery was attended by more than 190 participants. The program included 2 plenary lectures presented by Nicholas A Peppas, and Patrick Couvreur, two well known leading researchers in the field of drug delivery and controlled release; 14 inivited speakers whose presententions addressed research areas such as Neurological disorders, Cancer, Diagnosis/Medical devices, Regenerative Medicine, Immunotherapy, Design of Monoclonal Antibodies, Vaccines and Viral Systems for Therapeutic Application; a Round Table "Bridging the Translational Gap Between Academia and the Patient" with the participation of portuguese pharmaceutical companies (Bluepharma and Blueclinical) and member of the Technology Transfer Office of the Univerisity of Coimbra; 12 oral communications presented by the Young Section; and a Session fully dedicated to the discussion of 118 poster communications.
Two awards were attributted for be best oral and poster communications. João Conniot from the Research Institute for Medicines of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon was awarded with the best oral communication entitled "Combination of Dendritic Cell-targeted Nano-vaccines with Immune Checkpoint Therapy for Melanoma". Andreia Pimenta from Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon was awarded with the best poster communication entitled "Moxifloxacin-loaded acrylic intraocular lenses for prevention of postoperative endophthalmitiss: in vitro and in vivo performance".
